Healthcare
Healthcare in Spain is extremely efficient and
fully available to EU residents. You are entitled
to get healthcare through the public system in
countries of the European Union (EU), European
Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland if you become
ill or injured while on a temporary stay there.
Until now, you needed an E form - such as the
E111 or the E128 - to get such treatment. Now,
these paper forms are being replaced by the European
Health Insurance Card. One card is needed for
each individual or member of the family.
Climate
The climate has to be one of the main attractions
… with over 320 sunny days a year on average.
Varying slightly from the north to the south,
you will find some regions more suitable for your
needs than others. Rainfall is much lower than
in Britain or Ireland, giving you even more opportunity
to enjoy outdoor life. Imagine being able to sit
out on your terrace in the middle of December?
Or doing a spot of gardening daily, regardless
of the season? Or eating al fresco mid March?
You could well find yourself doing all these things
and more!
Education
The standard of education in Spain is
high and your children have the choice of attending
local Spanish schools where they will soon become
fluent in the language … it really holds no barriers
… or international schools where they are taught
in English.
Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca (the White Coast) is located
in the centre of the Spanish Mediterranean Coastline.
Numerous civilizations have settled and fought
in this area over the centuries. Much evidence
of the Romans and the Moors can be seen in many
places along the South Costa Blanca. You will
also find good shopping, great seafood, a la carte
restaurants, clean beaches, pretty coves, plenty
of golf courses, nightlife and that warm Mediterranean
atmosphere. The life style is quite simple…relaxed,
warm, friendly and full of time for you to do
what you want to do. Most days are sunny and bright
even in the winter; you can live your life out
of doors. Costa Blanca is now considered to be
one of the healthiest places in the world to live.
Rich in salts and minerals, plenty of sunshine
and the great Mediterranean diet.
Costa de la Luz
The Costa de la Luz or ‘coast of light’ is a 200km
stretch of beautiful unspoilt coastline to the
far south west of Andalusia, stretching south
from Huelva past Cadiz to Tarifa, opposite Gibraltar.
Also known as the Spanish Algarve, the Costa de
la Luz offers undiscovered peace and tranquility,
golden sandy beaches washed by clear blue seas
and backed by sweeping dunes, majestic pine forests,
rolling hills and countryside dotted with traditional
whitewashed villages. The region is cut in half
by the Donana National Park, home to many wild
animals and birds. To the west of Donana and towards
the Portuguese border are a number of developments
with hotels, villa complexes and golf courses,
including Matalascanas, Playa de Mazagon and Playa
de la Antilla. The coast south of Cadiz has a
number of resorts including the rapidly developing
compexes of Zahara de las Atunes and Chiclana.
The area has a good number of golf courses, and
a Formula One racing circuit at Jerez. In the
winter, the Costa de la Luz is much quieter than
its neighbours however benefits from being located
close to the beautiful, historic towns of Seville,
Jerez and Cadiz. Property prices on the Costa
de la Luz are still affordable, and show strong
growth. The lack of available building land guards
against over-development, so it will never become
as populated as some of the other costas.
