SOUTH WEST TURKEY
The coastline from Fethiye to Antalya is spectacular
and it is where much of the tourist and property
development has taken place over the last few
years. The beaches and residential areas are surrounded
by coves and bays, where construction is strictly
forbidden. The area is served by two airports,
Dalaman which is 50km and Antalya which is 200
km from Fethiye. With over 300 sunny days a year,
little rainfall and hundreds of miles of spectacular
coastline, its the perfect place to enjoy
long, lazy days on the beach and you can comfortably
swim in those turquoise coloured waters for ten
months of the year!
Our excellent partner, based at Oludeniz, will
be very happy to show you this stunning area and
properties that suit your requirements. We promise
there will be no pressure to purchase and indeed
have some glowing testomonies of his service and
very happy clients who have now found their dream
home in Turkey!
Fethiye
Set on the hillside, Fethiye is a vibrant harbour
town sitting on the coast of the Mediterranean
Sea. The waters are the clearest turquoise shade
and offer you the chance to watch the most glorious
sun sets whilst sipping cocktails on the waters
edge at one of the many bars and restaurants that
surround the bay. There is a wide selection of
restaurants around the harbour and in the town
of Fethiye. In particular a visit to the fish
market in the centre of Fethiye is a must. The
fresh catch is sold in the middle of a shady courtyard,
surrounded by friendly restaurants, willing to
cook your selection for about £1. A meal
for 4 people including local wine will cost around
£30. The town has an area called Paspatur
which is a bazaar area catering for the needs
of all tourists with real atmosphere. The main
street and all side streets are full of big and
small traders in everything you can possibly imagine.
Some 3000 to 4000 ex-pats live in and around Fethiye
permanently, with this number doubling at least
during the spring to autumn.
Oludeniz
The beautiful resort of Oludeniz with its famous
Blue Lagoon, which features on the covers of many
holiday brochures, is only 10km away from Fethiye
and is easily reached by the dolmus (local bus
service), which runs frequently and is very cheap.
As an alternative, there is also a water taxi
between Calis and the harbour of Fethiye. With
it's pristine white beaches and amazingly blue
waters it is one of the finest beaches in the
world. Known as "the Turquoise Coast",
it's the ideal holiday destination. Be it diving,
rafting, paragliding or simply walking and sunbathing
lazily on the beach, Oludeniz has it all! Situated
in the heart of Lycia, is the ideal centre for
visiting it's many antique cities and the many
natural wonders in the area that attract as much
interest as the historical sites!
Calis Beach
5 km north of Fethiye and accessible via water
taxi or mini bus, Calis is a 2km stretch of course
sand and pebbles. Facing Fethiye Bay and it's
small islands to the west, Calis Beach enjoys
a beautiful view and stunning sunsets. The area
is flat and enjoy cool breezes, so is great in
the summer months when the heat of the area is
at it's warmest. This also means that it is perfect
for water sports, there are a range of sports
available, windsurfing and kite surfing being
among the most popular. Calis has an array of
bars, cafes and restaurants along the pedestrian
promenade, the atmosphere is very informal, relaxed
and friendly, making it popular with people who
return year after year, some even deciding to
make Calis their permanent residence. Nearby Fethiye
town is a short journey away, with many shops
and historical places for those who like to mix
a bit of sun-worshipping with sampling some of
the local culture and traditions.
Ovacik
Ovacik is a delightful village located 4km from
Oludeniz. It is in easy walking distance of Hisaronu
and on the local dolmus route to Fethiye. Cool
breezes and beautiful mountain views enchant those
staying there. Located at the foot of Babadag
mountain, there is always a refreshing offshore
breeze even in the hottest months. This resort
has plenty of accommodation from budget hotels
to affordable apartments. There are a growing
number of bars and restaurants along the main
road leading to Hisaronu. Ovacik is great for
people who want to be close enough to the nightlife
to enjoy it, but prefer to retire to more quiet
surroundings to sleep.
Hisaronu Village
Hisaronu is situated between Oludeniz and Ovacik
and is 450 metres above sea level so it benefits
from fresh mountain air making it slightly cooler
than Oludeniz. This is by far the most lively
resort in the area. There are many shops, restaurants
and bars staying open well into the early hours
of the morning, so there is something for everyone.
The area is commercial compared to some of the
other resorts in Turkey, however very tourist
friendly and judging by the amount of people who
return year after year it is certainly a success
story.
